AmeriCorp Members Gain First Hand Experience: The Benefits of Grass-Root Urban Agricultural Projects

For the past 4 years we’ve welcomed various young adults from around the country who’ve taken up a charter mission to serve the under-served (communities, families, neighborhoods and children).  Meet this year’s AmeriCorp Members who have traveled from Seattle, New Jersey, North Carolina and Connecticut to dedicate their hands where their hearts are for a 12 week “tour of duty” in Houston.  We couldn’t be happier to benefit from their community service as we continue to push past the hurdles of rebuilding from the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.   In turn, we look forward to providing hands-on experience and exposure to the construct and purpose of a community garden located in a real-time urban food desert.  And, as always, we will take this opportunity  to providing continued mentorship, communication and guidance to these volunteers connecting with a mass of prevailing issues surrounding communities recovering from natural disasters, gentrification and the emergent need for sovereign community development.
